About the Author
Carrol Matthews was born in a small town in a depressed area of western Pennsylvania. He had no father and wore tattered clothes to school, and he learned early on that nothing was going to be easy. But he had a mother's love and support, and he earned good grades in school. His mother's words of wisdom were very instrumental in the making of this book, a collection of quotes and quips of color that offers a glimpse into African-American history, values, and social issues with both humor and grace.
