Praise For…

"These Weekly Reader Summer Express books are just loaded with learning experiences, wrapped in lots of fun. And, my twin grandchildren feel like "big kids" having this book to carry around! These (I have two of them) are great for quiet time and some one on one with the little ones. Very colorful, never boring - everybody is always eager to see what the pages hold. It's good practice, too, over the summer, to be ready for school in the fall." --Barbara McArthur

"I love this workbook. My 4 year old is very advanced with a first grade reading level but needs some more help with math. We have her in a pre-k program for gifted kids and they suggested we work on her math with her at home. She does great with the reading parts of this but we need to help her through some of the math (some she was able to do on her own). Her teachers asked us what we had been using to help increase her math comprehension so we showed them this book and they were very impressed. Definitely recommend. It's set up in such a way that it keeps the child's attention without overwhelming them or making them bored. Great product." --Jamie

"This is great! I got this for my son for the upcoming summer. I wanted to make sure he doesn't lose the information and skills he's learning this year in Kindergarten. There are 128 pages separated by weeks(10) and then by days. Each day has 2 pages alternating between language arts and math. It covers alphabet, counting, rhyming, silent vowels and regular, sight words, patterns, shapes, reading comprehension, addition and subtraction.. I think that covers pretty much the topics. There is also a complete answer key in the back. Nothing difficult for a child who has finished Kindergarten or lengthy but just enough to keep them remembering the things they have learned. It also includes a certificate of completion and a page of stickers (stars). I'm so grateful for books like this so I don't have to "re-teach" my child for weeks when school starts again in the fall." --Belinda G.

"This is a great book for kids (for summer learning and for homeschooling).  It starts out very basic, but advances fairly quickly.  I love the color photos and pictures and my son is super engaged." --Lindsey W

"I got this for my daughter, who is in kindergarten now. She likes it a lot. There's a nice variety of activities, covering various learning areas. Some of the activities are super easy for her while others are more challenging, but she likes doing all of them. I don't have to ask her to pick the book up and work on it; she does that on her own, often just after we've done our nightly reading. Highly recommended." --Brian J. Greene

"This is a great workbook to keep your child engaged during the summer. It's organized thoughtfully with parents and children in mind. It is separated into 10 weekly sections, with 2 new activities per day (5 days to a week).

The beginning of each week has a convenient page dedicated to parents called, ""Help Your Child Get Ready."" It lists the skills your child will be working on that week, and gives activity suggestions that are related to that week's curriculum.

A sticker chart is included to keep your child encouraged and motivated, along with award certificates you can fill out. And the star stickers are included in the back of the book." --Bishop

"As a former elementary educator, Scholastic and I go way back. I had heard of Weekly Reader and used a few samples given to me for classroom use a couple of years ago. I was happy to try out this Summer Express program workbook. The workbook explains each part of the book and how parents can best implement it with their child. Included in the introduction is "tips for using the book", and "skill building activities for any time". The skills alignment section shows each week and what skill(s) focus is being worked on. Each week begins with some activities that the parent and child might enjoy. Incentive charts, stickers, and certificates are provided for each week. My child and I have done some pages together, and I can already tell that we will be doing more each day than 1 page (front/back). We both enjoyed the process, and focusing/reviewing on important skills. I went ahead and ordered another workbook to start using with my other child too." --Mimi

"This workbook has a little bit of everything. I like how the weekly lesson plans are mixed up using snippets of math, reading, writing, phonics and vocabulary. We've tried targeted workbooks (like just math or just alphabet) but halfway through, our little guy has had enough. Variety keeps his attention much better. Some pages are easier to do than others, but taken as a whole, it's a comprehensive mix complete with certificates and stickers. I like that Scholastic has chosen to illustrate using colorful real-life photos instead of silly drawings. This is a great book to use during summer month gaps or weeks when year-round school is not in session. Given in small doses each day, Weekly Reader Summer Express remains a fun activity for our child." --Ladyfingers
